A 60s Homage: The Red-Flowered Mini Skirt
I found this beautiful pink‑and‑red floral material while thrifting and immediately knew it needed to become a 1960s‑inspired mini skirt—partly because of the bold pattern, and partly because the limited yardage practically demanded a smaller silhouette. The skirt is made from cotton and finished with a zipper and hook‑and‑eye closures at the waistband, keeping the construction simple and true to the era’s clean lines.
The Short Skirt Revolution
The mini skirt as we know it was named and popularized during the women’s liberation movement of the 1960s. Although short skirts certainly existed throughout earlier periods of history, this decade cemented the mini skirt as a symbol of modern fashion. When we picture a contemporary short skirt today, we’re often imagining the legacy of that moment—youthful, bold, and unapologetically forward‑looking.
