The Mint Dress: An Homage to Childhood Nostalgia
Growing up in the early 2000s meant I was deeply inspired by the fashion of the decade but rarely able to wear it myself. Media played a huge role in sparking my love for clothing and sewing, so taking on a project that paid homage to that era felt especially meaningful. That’s how the Mint Dress came to be. It also became another personal challenge to design and create a garment with very limited fabric resources. The body of the dress is made from soft jersey knit, and the straps are crafted from a non-stretch acrylic fabric, tying the whole piece back to its original inspiration.
2000s Fashion: Bold Colors and Big Attitude
The early 2000s marked the rise of low‑rise jeans, crop tops, and spiky hairdos—a blend of edgy punch fashion and girly aesthetics, full of bold colors and an
abundance of accessories. Fashion during that decade felt wide‑ranged and explorative in a way modern trends sometimes struggle to capture.
