Flannel Vest and Knit Skirt Outfit
Because my focus of study is fashion history, many of the garments I make tend to be fabric‑dense. Every so often, though, I enjoy creating something more modern with fabric conservation in mind. This outfit was one of those projects, using one yard or less of both the flannel and the jersey knit fabric.
Designing Within Limits
Getting creative with limited fabric can bring a really fun twist to the sewing process. When you have to problem‑solve around a design, it pushes your skills in the best way—encouraging you to rethink construction, adjust
proportions, and make thoughtful choices with every cut. Working within those constraints teaches you a lot about the craft and often leads to solutions you wouldn’t have discovered otherwise.
