Where Sewing Meets History

The Art of Patternmaking

Patternmaking is as much an art as the sewing process itself. I see it as a beautiful fusion of creativity and technical skill, transforming concepts into tangible garments that can be brought to life both in my home and yours. Serving as the foundational template, patternmaking provides the structure from which you can create something truly special and unique for yourself.

This personal connection to the artistry of patternmaking is why I dedicate so much time to ensuring attention to detail and craftsmanship in every pattern I create. Every one of my patterns is crafted with the care and precision they deserve. Each step is lovingly executed by my own hands, ensuring quality throughout the process. I sincerely appreciate your interest in both the craftsmanship behind my patterns and our creative journey, and I thank you for joining me on this exciting journey.

Portfolio Snapshot

I have two main passions when it comes to sewing: exploring and creating wonderful, extravagant, historically inspired pieces, and building the perfect capsule wardrobe. Such interests might seem at odds with each other, the impracticality of costumes to the practical daily wardrobe but it’s a juxtaposition I enjoy trying to balance, nonetheless.

History matters deeply. Something as simple as clothing plays a vital role in telling the story of the past, from the fabrics and garment structure to the balance of simplicity and opulence. These elements impart important lessons for the present.

I apply these same lessons to all my sewing endeavors: using natural fibers where possible and crafting quality garments that will last a lifetime. Clothing should feel comfortable, flattering, and well-made. Qualities I’ve found are easily ignored or overlooked in store-bought clothing but can be easily achieved by some simple sewing knowledge and skill.

My goal, forever and always, is to make something that will stand the test of time.

Meet The Artist

Growing up, I spent a lot of time watching people sew. I was fascinated by the process, watching intently as the fabric passed through the machine, illuminated under the spotlight of the lamp like a beacon. Listening to the thudding of the needle brought me comfort.

I got my very first sewing machine when I turned twelve. With my grandmother’s guiding hand, I made a pair of pants, and then it sat in its box unused and untouched for the next six years. Despite my desire to sew, I was honestly intimidated by the process. Cutting fabric felt scary, the sewing machine was intimidating, and I was afraid of making mistakes.

Eventually, my desire to create surpassed my reservations. I knew I just had to start. One project at a time, I improved; instructions became easier, my skills increased, and before long, I was creating complex garments and designing my own patterns.

The passion I had as a child blossomed into a reality I once thought would never be possible. Now, I can’t see myself doing anything else with my time. Whether professionally or personally, sewing has become such a bright part of my life.

I believe everyone should learn how to sew, even if it’s just to mend a button. To me, sewing is a valuable skill that represents freedom—the freedom to choose and the freedom to create. And still, to this day, the steady thud of the needle remains a comfort, one I hope to share.

The Harvesting Apron

gathered cherry printed harvesting apron front

One apron, four beautiful ways to wear it. Style each side gathered into a charming basket shape or leave them down for a classic, everyday apron silhouette.

Inspired by the charm and practicality of 1930s basket aprons, this pattern offers a modern take on a timeless design. Fully reversible and endlessly adaptable, the Harvesting Apron can be worn in four distinct configurations—gathered into a deep carrying pocket or left open as a classic apron on either side. Thoughtfully constructed for makers, gardeners, cooks, and creatives alike, it’s a versatile companion designed to bring beauty and usefulness to everyday tasks.

The accumulation of knowledge is an important pursuit in life. I consider myself a lifelong student in all respects, because you don’t know what you don’t know, and you’re never too old to learn. While I continue my own journey of discovery, I also wish to share what I’ve learned in the wonderful craft of sewing to help others on theirs.

Specifically, I want to share tips and tricks, personal stories, research I’ve come across, and so much more. Sewing is one of those skills that involves many small details that make a garment look cleanly finished and professional. Fortunately, it’s not difficult to achieve once you have the proper knowledge—or at least know how to find the information you need.

After all, there’s always a new technique to learn, a fabric to explore, and a pattern to try.

Moreover, I believe sewing is a journey of experimentation more than anything else. Throughout history, it was common to see dresses remade and altered repeatedly—to suit changing fashion, fit a different body, or repurpose fabric when it became too worn. The same principles apply to modern sewing: no project is ever truly finished. There’s always an opportunity to adjust the fit, update the style, or transform the item into something entirely new.

This mindset means mistakes are simply part of the process. A dress that didn’t turn out quite right can be taken apart and transformed into a top. A top that’s been altered one too many times can become a bag or a scrunchie. And fabric beyond repair can still find new life as stuffing for pillows or handmade toys.

Although learning to sew can feel intimidating at first, it’s an incredibly forgiving craft—one that rewards creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to experiment. With a little patience and imagination, every misstep becomes an opportunity for something new.

That’s why I believe so strongly in fostering a supportive community of sewists. Sharing knowledge, celebrating each other’s progress, and encouraging one another only strengthens the craft as a whole. I’m so excited to start adding my own contributions to that community and to continue learning alongside all of you.
