A Classic Circle Skirt: The Pauper Dress

The middle‑layer circle skirt serves as a bridge between the petticoat and the overskirt, concealing the tulle and offering a clean, even color for the outer layers to stand out against. I made it from a light pink cotton, which not only suits the palette of the costume but also makes it one of the few pieces that can easily transition into everyday modern wear.

Costume to Wardrobe, Can it Do Both?

While it’s not always possible, some of the best costume pieces are the ones that can slip into a modern wardrobe with a little extra planning. Choosing the right materials, adding adjustability, or breaking the costume into separate

garments can all help a piece feel wearable beyond its original purpose. It’s something I always consider before starting a project, making sure I’m getting the most use out of the materials I have, love, and wear regularly.
