Bloomer Shorts

Bloomers first appeared in the 19th century as a practical under‑skirt garment, offering women greater comfort and mobility. They were shortened and reimagined in the 1950s as part of popular sleepwear, a silhouette that strongly influences their modern revival. My version takes inspiration from those earlier styles while using modern construction techniques, made from white cotton with a simple elastic waistband.

A Cultural Revival

Bloomer shorts made a striking return in 2022, moving from their origins as an undergarment to a centerpiece of modern styling. This surge in popularity stems from the heightened visibility

of historical clothing in film and television, along with a cultural trend toward romanticizing and reinterpreting the past when the future feels uncertain.
