Full-Length Circle Skirt in Green
Loosely inspired by Victorian walking skirts, this project began with a simple circle‑skirt pattern transformed into a full, floor‑length silhouette. I incorporated construction methods seen throughout historical garments, including adjustable tie closures at the waist. The waistband ties at both the front and back, making the fit fully customizable and leaving ample room for 18th‑century pockets. The skirt is made from nine yards of heavy cotton, giving it a beautiful weight and movement reminiscent of period walking skirts.
Walking Skirts Through Time
The Victorian walking skirt was a more casual, practical garment designed for everyday wear. It typically featured a gentle A‑line silhouette in the front, paired with a softly bustled back that added volume and created the distinctive shape of the decade.
These design choices balanced ease of movement with the elegant proportions expected of the period, making the walking skirt both functional and beautifully characteristic of its time.
