The Reimagined Corset Top
This corset top has gone through many small transformations over the years. It began as a simple garment, but it always felt like it had more potential than its first version showed.
Made from cotton, crepe de chine, plastic boning, faux fur, and organza, it now carries a blend of practicality and whimsy. Each material adds a quiet touch to the final design, reflecting the gentle evolution the garment has gone through.
A Breath of New Life
While I liked the original version of this top, it never quite felt like a piece I truly connected with. It was well‑constructed, but it didn’t have the spark that makes a garment feel special.
When the idea for a Bibble costume from Barbie: Fairytopia came along, it immediately felt like the perfect chance to reimagine it. Suddenly the top had a new purpose, and its colors and shape fit the character so naturally that it felt meant to be part of the design.
I was also lucky to have enough leftover fabric from the original project to create the skirt panels, which helped tie the whole look together. From there, the costume really began to take shape—especially once I used organza and wire to form the wings and faux fur to create the soft, playful spots integral to the character.
In the end, transforming this top became one of my favorite parts of the project. What started as a garment I didn’t fully love grew into a cohesive, whimsical costume that finally felt complete.
